The Central Alabama Handbell Festival 2017 is fast approaching! This year we celebrate 30 years of ringing handbells. Pleasant Hill UMC (4809 Bell Hill Road, Bessemer, Alabama 35022) is our host. Ed Rollins is our Clinician and Workshop leader. Seventeen handbell choirs will join together in five rehearsals over two days that culminate in the Festival Concert at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25. The Festival Concert is free and everyone is invited! Come enjoy the great music with us! A bit of past CAHF history: Vestavia Hills UMC hosted the first CAHF. Others who hosted the CAHF include Pleasant Ridge Baptist, Mountain Chapel UMC,   Canterbury UMC, St. Mark UMC, Leeds First Baptist, Huffman Baptist, Southeastern Bible College, Spain Park High School and, our current hosts, Pleasant Hill UMC. Hosting the CAHF is a very big undertaking. Our sincere thanks to all who hosted the CAHF. At least 85 Handbell Choirs have attended at least one CAHF over our 30 years. Many of them have attended multiple times. Each handbell choir that attends spends many hours rehearsing the festival music. They polish and pack bells, load everything they will need at the   festival and come from near and far away. Once at the CAHF the rehearsals continue…five of them. The Closing Concert is the final product. The selection of music is very important to the CAHF. The music needs to be easy enough to include novice ringers and difficult enough to challenge advanced ringers. This is no easy task! Throughout the history of the CAHF much careful work went into selecting the music for each festival. The list of music for the past festivals includes more than 143 titles. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Advent/Christmas ringing season and that 2016 is off to a great start for you and your ringers. The Central Alabama Handbell Festival 2016 is March 4 – 5 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in McCalla, Alabama. The registration form can be downloaded from the registration page here on the website. Please get those forms sent in to me as soon as possible. The CAHF Planning Team is made up of all handbell directors and ringers who are interested in the Central Alabama Handbell Festival. Our next CAHF Planning Team meeting is scheduled for January 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church to review and finalize plans for CAHF 2016. We will also look forward to CAHF 2017. Please bring at least two (2) selections for consideration for the music list for 2017. You are invited to attend. Please help get the word out about the Festival to Handbell Choirs in your area. We would love to have the biggest turnout yet this year. Remember, the Handbell Festival is open to all handbell choirs, regardless of experience level or number of ringers.   Directors, Here is the order for the Closing Concert from Michael Helman. Crown Him with Many Crowns The Staff of Faith Meditation on Beautiful Savior Bethlehem You Raise Me Up Les Miserables   Don’t forget: Each participating choir is asked to: Help with refreshments by bringing: Two (2)—3-liter drinks Two Dozen cookies OR something salty Veggie Tray OR Fruit Tray OR a breakfast snack for Saturday morning. Bring a poster telling about your group.  (Pictures, bulletins, programs, fundraisers, activities in which you have participated, etc.)   The posters will be displayed during the Festival and Concert. Please have food on ready-to-serve plates or trays.   Reminders: Remember to bring your own music stands, pads, covers, mallets, gloves, chimes, and BELLS! There will not be a nursery available during rehearsals or the closing concert. Children should be supervised at all times. We want to be welcomed guests at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. It is important that we take care of their facility! If you have anyone in your choir who is a nurse, can administer CPR, or handle basic first aid, please let us know when you arrive. All participating choirs are expected to attend all rehearsals in preparation for the closing concert. The lunch break is one hour and fifteen minutes. Central Alabama Handbell Festival 2015 is almost here. As of Feb. 5, Helena UMC, Trussville FUMC, Huffman UMC, Grace Christian Church (DOC), Pleasant Hill UMC, Mountain Chapel UMC, Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, FUMC Hueytown, Riverchase UMC and Christ Church UMC are registered and are already having great fun with this year’s music selection. Michael Helman is this year’s clinician. The Festival Closing Concert will be at 3:00 p.m. Feb. 28 at Pleasant Hill UMC. Directors and interested ringers are invited to participate in the Seminar/Workshop with Michael Helman Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill UMC. Handbell Musicality is the focus for the session. A Welcome from Kelley Clegg Neal

Welcome to the new Central Alabama Handbell Festival website!  I am Kelley Clegg Neal, chairperson for the 2015 Festival.  I look forward to working with you as we plan for a great Festival 2015.  Trussville FUMC is where I direct two adult Handbell Choirs and Children’s Handchimes.  In July I attended the Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar in Atlanta.  Awesome….that’s what it was!  If you have never been or have not been in a long time, I recommend that you make plans to attend the next one. The Central Alabama Handbell Festival planning team has a place for you around the table and welcomes your input.  The more folks working on Festival 2015 the more the word will spread about the event.  Just let me know that you would like to help with the planning.
